Cameron T. "Cameron" Dingle | Owlish Owl
I am a senior at UNC Charlotte studying Computer Science without a real focus on a specific area. I enjoy learning more about CS and am excited to broaden my experiences in the field and create projects I can be proud of.
- Personal Background: I'm currently 25 years old and really enjoy learning about random topics and working on PCs. If you have any fun facts, I'd love to hear them! I've also got 4 dogs and enjoy gaming in my free time.
- Professional Background: I've worked in a few different fields over the years ranging from doing feasibility studies into the viability of different GMO products in late high school to spending a few months as a professional OW player to working in retail as I work towards my CS degree. Currently, I'm a manager at Target while I wrap up my degree.
- Academic Background: I am currently a senior at UNC Charlotte studying towards a CS degree in software, systems, and networks. Prior to that, I spent 4 years at Appstate working on a double major in chemistry and biochemistry, though I didn't finish that degree before changing my field of study and transferring to UNCC. I'm also a graduate of Sun Valley High School in Monroe, NC and I have a CompTIA A+ certification and am working on a Network+ certifcation as well.
- Background in this Subject: I actually don't have much of a background in front end web development. My only experience with it is a bit of development for a webserver project I've done for a class last semester but I wasn't the one responsible for our front end implementation so I haven't had much experience with it.
- Primary Work Computer: My primary work computer is a custom built PC I use for gaming, personal projects, as a server, and for schoolwork. It has a 4080 super, a 7800x3d, 96gb of ram, and about 5tb of storage. I also have an old 13" laptop I bring too and from campus.
- Backup Work Computer & Location Plan: My backup computer is a home theater PC I built a few years back. It's got a 3070, a 5600x, 32gb of ram, and about 3tb of storage I can use if I have any issues with my main system and/or laptop. The location I'll handle most of the work in this class is in my owm home, but I also have access to the campus library where I can handle schoolwork as well.
Courses I'm taking, & Why:
- ITIS 3135 - Front-End Web App Development: I thought this class would be interesting and I don't really have any experience in front end development so I thought it could help me a bit with learning about that
- ITCS 4141 - Computer Systems and Architecture: This is one of the final course requirements I need for my degree and, while I'm familiar with most of it's content, it's always good to make sure I have a proper understanding and maybe I learn more
- ITCS 4145 - Parallel Programming: Another required course for my degree
- ITIS 3200 - Intro to Info Security and Privacy: A course I needed to take to fill some credit requirements. I thought the topic would be interesting and I haven't had much of a focus on security throughout my time in CS, so I thought it'd be important to get some knowledge in this area
- ITIS 3246 - IT Infrastructure and Security: Another course I needed for credit requirements. I'm very familiar with much of the content in this course but I thought it'd be good to take an easy class since I would have to balance school with my own personal life, projects, and work; along with job hunting
- Funny/Interesting item to remember me by: I'm the kind of guy that knows a little bit about everything but a lot about nothing. Unless it's music, movies, or hollywood; then I know nothing.
- I'd also like to share: I'm very much washed now but I spent a few months as a B-tier professional Overwatch player back in highschool. I also helped with the preliminary research for an aphid resistant strain of rice while at a summer internship in highschool.
