Assignment 4A:Lead Screw
For this assignment, we choosed a simple module that consisted of a leadscrew that had a single axis toolholder mounted on it. This screw would be turned within its axis due to a motor installed.
This preliminary design accommodates a tool and toolholder not exceeding 5lbs. The choice for lead screw was 2 start, ½ - 10 ACME lead screw. The motor of choice to drive this operation is a NEMA 23 stepper motor which supplies sufficient torque to move the load rapidly and accurately.
Things not considered/oversights in this preliminary design:
-Guide rods with bearings to distribute load
-Any control systems mounting, routing
-NEMA 23 coupling for the lead screw
-Appropriate bearing, and mounting configuration at non motor end.
