About Us

Our Journey

In 1965, our founder Don Carter (a lifelong pilot) bought 3 airplanes. With a passion for teaching people how to fly, he began his first flight school in the Piedmont. He trained 6 young pilot's, all of whom became Top Gun graduates in the United States Navy and praised Don's teaching style. He continued to teach for over 40 years, partnering with airports and aviators across North Carolina to train pilots of all ages. Even after his passing in 2005, his legacy continues in the time-tested training methodologies.

Today, our schools own over 50 well-maintained aircraft. We have 20 Certified Flight Instructors, all Instrument Flight Rated and each with over 1000 hours of flight experience in the cockpit. Our schools have trained over 600 aviators over the years, and we can't wait for you to be the next! We're also your one-stop shop for anything aviation related, whether it's sectional charts, aviation books, headsets, flight calculators, or some high-quality aviation souvenirs. No matter your experience level or interest in aviation, we're here to guide you every step of the way!

Schedule

Flight Times

The best part about flying is there is no bad time of day to soar (other than incliment weather)! We have early birds and midnight owls, and we'll train you for any time of day that you need currency in. We regularly update our schedule sheet of the pilots that have reserved an aircraft. Once you join our flying school, reserving a flight slot is easy. Just select the plane you want, a time that's free, and we'll ensure we have an instructor or supplies ready for you.

Note that according to Federal Aviation Regulations [14 CFR 61.57(b)(1)] night currency is attained when flying during the period 1 hour after susent and 1 hour before sunrise. It also requires performing 3 landings to a full stop within the preceding 90 days within this time period. As such, the specific timing may depend on the season.
