Assignment Four
This is my page for Assignment Four, where I create three modules for one of my functional requirements in Assignment Three. In this assignment, I decide the functional requirement that has the highest
variability and design three ways to make assemblies of that component.
Problem Statement for Project: Design a system that is able to effectively wash one side of a car and be effective enough to get rid of 90% of suds within 10 seconds
Specifications:
* The concept must be large enough to contain a 2 cm diameter hose.
* The concept must be able to get rid of suds after a person scrubs the car.
* The concept must be able to be designed so that it can be easily controllable by a remote control.
* The concept must be able to spray water in a continuous motion towards the car.
* The concept must be able to maintain stability when water comes out of it.
* The design be able to take a lot of load without deforming
Assumptions:
* The force of the water coming out of a regular hose is 0.5 Newtons.
* A car is about 6-8 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 3 meters tall.
* The angular rate range of a motor is about 0.04 rad/s to 100 rad/s.
* The volumetric flow rate of a hose is 150 cm^3/s
* The tension in the hose is around 4 N.
* The design is about 2-3 meters from the car
Decision Matrix
Decision Matrix
* The decision matrix states that the best option using the chosen evaluation criteria and weights is the Manual Moveable Design.
Although this was the winner, I would like to make some tweaks to it possibly make it automated.
The functional requirement I chose for the modules is the rotational control. The rotational control turns the valve to once the hose is active and holds
the valve in place when it is not in use.

Lessons Learned
In this assignment I learned how to narrow down my concepts into modules that would become part of the final design. I have also learned more different equations for different types of systems.
Finally, I learned how to compare three designs to figure out which was more efficient.
Advice to my Advisees
John Fridy
The design of the website is great, here is just a couple of ideas to make your website better in the future.
* Try to make all of your activities for your assignments in a table, so that it is more organized.
* Some words in your website are misspelled, try to fix the mistakes for the future.
Matthew Gardner
* Add more detail to your modules, for example for the first module, what angular velocity would the motor be running at? What would be the pressure on the belt because of the cart, etc.
* Compare your modules using similar protocol, for example, how much power would each of these modules use up in order to transport the cart?
* Finally, update your Gantt chart so that the different parts of the assignment are sub-tasks of the main assignment.
