My Introduction to Video Games

Christmas 2004

Gameboy Advanced
My first gameboy and Pokemon Leaf Green

First game, I recieved it along with the gameboy advanced. Before this, I had no idea what pokemon was. Being my first video game, I must have put over 500 hours into it.

First game console other than a handheld. We got it at a circuit city years ago, not sure how long. First game we played on it was Crash, Wrath of Cortex for the playstation 2.

Favorite Video Game Series

The Legend of Zelda

Twilight Princess For the Nintendo Wii
The Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess

My all time favorite Zelda game, and possibly favorite game in general, it was also the first Zelda game I played. I got it back in 2010 and since then I have probably played through it over 20 times. Compared to the other Zelda games, this games darker themes and visuals stand out.

Skyward Sword For the Nintendo Wii
The Legend of Zelda, Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda, Skyward Sword is my second favorite Zelda game. This game utilized the Wii motion plus to track the Wii remote movement more accuratly and gives the game a more realistic feel in terms of combat.

Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch
The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild is my third favorite game in the series. Unlike the other Zelda games, this one was the first to be open world. This game features a wide variety of puzzles, combat challenges and secrets all throughout a huge open world. It also looks great, despite the Switches underperformance.

Games I would Reccomend

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a souls-like game from Fromsoft, the team that made Dark Souls. This game, like many others, was my first experience with a souls game. The thing about souls games is that they are meant to be pretty challenging, and can even feel unfair at times, but it is never impossible. It is an action rpg, with its main focus in combat. The enemies and bosses are difficult but it makes the game more exciting.

Crash Bandicoot

Crash 1, 2, 3
Crash 1, 2, 3

The first console games I ever played. Crash Bandicoot is a 3d platformer, originally released for the Playstion in 1996. Two more games were released after in the ps1 trilogy. I really like the movement in these games, its fast and responsive and rewards good gameplay. In the third game, they introduced a time trial mode that really takes the gameplay to a new level. In these, you will need to play close to perfect and optimize your movement to get the highest reward for the time trial.

Katamari Damacy

Katamari Damacy
We love Katamari Damacy

This game is a bit weird, and there isnt really anything else like it in terms of style and gameplay. The games story starts with the King of Cosmos accidently destroying the stars and planets. After acknowledging his mistake, he sends his 5cm tall son to earth with a magic ball called a katamari. Things smaller than the katamari will stick to it, and eventually cause it to grow in size. When they are big enough they are thrown into the sky and turned into planets and stars. A pretty relaxing game with lots of charm.

The Basics of Super Smash Bros. Melee

Super smash Bros melee was released for gamecube in 2001, the second game in the super smash bros series. The development for this game was rushed, only 13 months of development time. Because of this, the game has a lot of glitches and quirks that actually make the game better.

Here are a few of the essential techniques to get you started!

Wave-Dash

The games physics are not perfect to say the least. As you can see above, the two characters seem to slip across the floor, though one is more obvious. When you jump and air dodge into the ground at an angle, the characters airiel momentum will be carried with them, and they will slide across the ground. This makes movement more tricky and is considered the most important technique as it allows for faster movement.

L-Canceling

Whenever a character performs an attack in the air, when the land they will be unable to act for a certain amount of time. This is called landing lag. But, if you press either the L or R trigger button right before you land, your landing lag will be cut in half.

Wave-Landing

Wave-Landing is almost the same as wavedashing, but instead of airdodging into the ground, you can air dodge on a platform. Because air dodging uses the L or R trigger button, you can combine your movement with fast attacks.
