Digital & Sustainable Manufacturing

Digital & Sustainable Manufacturing

Digital Manufacturing is the use of digital technologies to plan, simulate, control, and optimize manufacturing processes and systems. Digital manufacturing transforms traditional factories into smart, data-driven production environments, enabling faster innovation, mass customization, and more resilient supply chains. Sustainable Manufacturing is defined as the creation of manufactured products that use processes that are non-polluting, conserve energy and natural resources, and are economically sound and safe for employees, communities, and consumers (National Council for Advanced Manufacturing, USA).

Jose C. M. Outeiro is Professor of Advanced and Sustainable Manufacturing at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science (MEES) of The University of North Carolina (UNC) Charlotte.
