Typography 2 George Strait Magazine Layout Design- Spread 1, made in Adobe InDesign, 1536 x 960px, 2022

Typography II George Strait Magazine Layout Design- Spread 1, made in Adobe InDesign, 1536 x 960px, 2022

The Typography II instructor tasked each individual in the class with reading an article of their choice from the selected New Yorker articles available about architects and muscial artists. Students then had to do further research about the artist they chose. They would then use their research and typographical skills to compose a cohesive magazine layout for the article they read that best represented the artist. The article I chose was about George Strait. Utilizing visual cues that related to George Strait such as roping, his audience's experience, and his brand deal with Wrangler, I was able to create a successful arrangement of typography interacting with decorative elements on each page. Spanning the bottom of the first and third spreads are lines of text from his songs imitating Strait's variety of fans.

This is the third spread from the George Strait Typography II project. These pages best represent my understanding of having balanced paragaraphs of text. The article that spans each of these spreads displays an even tone and highlights song titles and lyrics by presenting them in an oblique variant of the typeface the main article uses.

Graphic Design I- Yellowstone Pattern 1, made in Adobe Illustrator, 5000 x 2813px, 2021

The Graphic Design I instructor assigned the class the task of creating icons relating to a location that is significant to them, and then using these icons to create a pattern using a grid method. For my project, I created a pattern using icons pertaining to Yellowstone National Park. My family vactioned there for a week in 2017. The pattern references different types of wildlife, landmarks, and memories made at the park. This is the first pattern created in a series of two.

Graphic Design 1- Yellowstone Pattern 2, made in Adobe Illustrator, 5001 x 2813px, 2021

Graphic Design I- Yellowstone Pattern 2, made in Adobe Illustrator, 5001 x 2813px, 2021

2D Color Wheel

2D Design- Color Wheel, acrylic paint on illustration board, 16 x 16", 2020

This color theory assignment displays an understanding of a 12-step color wheel. Using shape, line, implied line, and color mixing techniques I created a design that explored a successful arrangement of warm verses cool colors.

Drawing 1- Fabric Study, charcoal on drawing paper, 18 x 24in, 2018

Drawing I- Fabric Study, charcoal on drawing paper, 18 x 24", 2018

This fabric study assignment required attention to detail and an understanding of how highlights and shadows affect value. The basic form of the fabric was sketched using line and shape. Choosing charcoal as the medium created a soft texture.

This abstract design explores line, shape, and value. Not only is line used as an element in this design, itis also used as a method of adding value. Hatching, cross-hatching, and scribbling are used to achieve various values on the value scale.

2D Design- Symbols, mixed media collage, 23 x 11in, 2020

Symbols, mixed media collage, 23 x 11", 2020

This assignment encouraged students to combine the foundational elements of line, shape, and value to present a symbolic language. I created a hybrid between the Polynesian symbol power of love and the Celctic dragonfly which symbolizes self-transformation and creativity using magazine clippings and Mod Podge glue.

Fruit and Veggies Still Life, charcoal on drawing paper, 18 x 24in, 2020

Fruit and Veggies Still Life, charcoal on drawing paper, 18 x 24", 2020

Untitled, charcoal on drawing paper, 18 x 24in, 2020

Untitled, charcoal on drawing paper, 18 x 24", 2020

The focus of this assignment was to draw a still life increasing the proportion of the objects in order to fill the page. In this still life I chose and arranged all objects while creating a strong composition utilizing negative space.

Untitled, digital photography, 2016 x 1344px, 2020

For my final project in Digital Photography I chose to explore advertising photography as it pertains to my career in graphic design. Choosing a prop based off of color matching and contrast drew attention to the product. The positioning of the rose and lipstick creates an invisible triangle which leads the viewer’s eye around the photo.

Untitled, digital photography, 2241 x 2048px, 2020

This photo was also a part of my exploration of advertising and promotional photography. A plain, white setting assists in creating contrast and makes the product the center of attention. Angling the product while utilizing the rule of thirds resulted in an effective composition.

Records Pattern Stamp Print on Fabric, fabric ink on cotton fabric, 37 x 41" , 2022

This was our first ink printing project in Fibers I. This design displays a pattern depicting speaker and vinyl records. Utilizing negative space and line, I was able to create a design that reflected upon itself when stamped in a horizontal pattern.

Birds Color Reduction Print, ink on drawing paper, 5.5 x 8.5" , 2022

For our Color Reduction Print project in Fibers I, I decided to create a drawing depicting a bird's nest utilizing negative space. This print required students to carve their design into a rubber block and print on paper using layers. My design began with a blue layer of ink to give the bird and eggs color. I then carved out any areas of the image I did not want ink to be placed over again. I then stamped the image a second time with green ink for the leaves, and a third time in black for the nest and solid outline of the image. This print was produced eight times including the artist's copy.

Baby Bunny, crochet 100% polyester yarn, 2022
