Sophomore Design: MEGR-2156

This class was split into two sections, the lecture portion and the lab portion. The way to submit assignments and present designs for the lecture was via an ePortolio through Canvas. I have attached my Canvas ePortfolio here on my website for additional accessibility as Canvas plans to remove the ePortfolio feature from their platform shortly following the Spring 2026 semester. I hope that this ePortfolio may provide a demonstration of the growth I have made as a mechanical engineering student and the level of detail and time that I put into my work.

The Lab portion had students working inside UNC-Charlotte's Machine Shop in Duke Centennial Hall. I did not document every step taken within the shop, but the assembled project will be shown below. This project was a physical assembly of the air engine designed during ENGR 1202-M. Students were taught how to use various machines including a lathe, mill, band saw, grinder, and press. For consistancy, all students were given exact copies of the model rather than utilizing the drawings we made during the previous semester. You can see the assembly render that I personally made in both Creo and SolidWorks here. At the end of the lab, each model is run and tested. I do not have footage of my engine being tested, but it did pass the necessary requirements. The first requirement was being able to run at over 5,000 rpm at 80 psi. The second requirement was continuing to run down to 5 psi. In testing, my engine was able to run as low as ~1.6 psi.
