Assignment #6: "Transformers"
-Create a new folder with its own index.html page.
-Within this page link all lasercutting/arduino files made.
-Create with a group a object utilizing input/output and laser cutting.
-Answer various questions relating to the assignment (Questions are shown on the page)
Here is the group project.
My teammates are James Baer and Matt DiVittorio
My Thoughts:
I began the assignment by getting into a group. I chose those next to me as I have gotten to know them to some extent. We began brainstorming ideas. I did a little research brouht up some ideas such as a windmill and ball levitator. We then discussed which idea we believe was the favorite. We went with the windmill. Then I went through some of the prebuilt assets, which were not ones that we used, and gave more feedback. Then after making altercations, we saved the lasercut drawing and took it to the printer. This is where we ran into our first error, which was the file itself was not working. after tweaking with the file for a few minutes and reimporting the drawing from Inkscape to a pdf, we were able to get a working copy. During that process I was shortening down cardboard so that it would fit inside the lasercutter. After double checking the settings on the lasercutter, we pressed go and watched it cut the cardboard. It came out just as intended. We gathered the peices and moved to one of the architeture tables outside to begin assembling. My task was to glue all of the peices and figure out how to put it all together. After assembling most of the windmill, there was another issue, which was we forgot to cut out one of the triangles need for the roof. After improvision that issue was fixed with a precise hand and left over cardboard. After most of the assembling, class was over so my teammate took it home and finished the last few details. The overall projects used many lasercut peices, arduino board, breadboard, DC motor, and button.
What you liked/disliked about this assignment?
- I liked working in a group with others, and I didn't really dislike anything.
What were some easy/difficult challenges to the assignment?
- Overall choosing the concept was rather difficult, but once that was completed the technical applications wierd fairly easy.
Why did you choose the different sensors and actuators?
- We wanted to primarly focus on the laser cutting, therefore we wanted something simple, yet effictive, therefore choosing the simple DC Motor and button combination.
What would you like to learn more about?
- I would like to learn more about laser cutting practices.
