Prerequisite: MATH 3163 with a grade of C or better or consent of the department.

Congruences (Chapter 4)
Fermats Little Theorem and Euler's generalization (Section 5.3, Chapter 7)
Number Theoretic Functions (Chapter 6)
Primitive Roots and Indices (Chapter 8)
Quadratic Reciprocity (Chapter 9)
The Fermat Conjecture (Chapter 11, time permitting)
Test Dates:
Test 1 Wednesday February 13, 12:00-12:50 pm
Test 2 Wednesday March 27, 12:00-12:50 pm
Final Exam Monday May 6, 12:00pm - 3:00pm

Homework: Homework will be handed in nearly every week, and will be usually due on Monday. I will make an effort to regularly post the homework on the webpage http://www.math.uncc.edu/~ghetyei/courses/4161/hw.html .  In case of discrepancy, what I said in class is "official".
Evaluation: Grades will be based on: 25% for the homework, 21 % for each of the tests, and 33 % for the final.
Class meeting: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 12:00-12:50 am in Denny 217.
