Degree of Freedom -

• The linear or angular spatial dimensions in which a given object is free to move.
• Any state parameter which is not nominally constrained to a fixed value

Example: an object which has two spatial degrees of freedom can move in either a two dimensional plane, or along a line while rotating, or in a dual rotation (spherically about a point).
