Repeatability -
- Measurement - A statistically quantitative measure of how
close any given measurement in a succession of same measurements
will be to the most common measurement. For a particular statistical relation, such as
gaussian, the repeatability may include a mathematical parameter such as "The 3 sigma
positional repeatability is 2 micrometers" etc.
- Machine - A statistically quantiative measure of the
ability to consistently place a machine in a given state using the
same input values (such as the ability to place a tool or probe to the same location with
respect to the workpiece given the same machine
coordinates)
- Manufacturing - A statistically quantiative measure of the
ability of an operating manufacturing process to produce the same effect (such as cut a
slot the same size or grow a surface oxide the same thickness) The process can be
producing out-of-tolerance parts and yet be producing
them repeatably.
