Buffon’s famous illustration, “Le Jocko,” from Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière, Volume 14 (1766).  The original engraving was done by Jacques de Sève and was copied for the other editions of Buffon, for example, the Dutch edition (right), and which looks just a bit more human than the original.
