UNC Charlotte asks:  Donate your old Furby!

Wanted:  Dead or Alive

Yep, Furby, that cute and lovable toy.  Professor James Conrad teaches a Computer Engineering course where students disassemble Furbies and examine their innards.  "You would be surprised at the computer technology inside," he said.  "Each toy contains a microprocessors, several output devices like a speaker and a motor, and a plethora of input sensors."  Students are asked to open the toy and identify these computer parts.  Professor Conrad has seen his pile of yard sale purchases dwindle due to use and wear.  He is looking for your spare toys, working or broken, that would otherwise gather dust or be discarded.

Thank you for your interest in donating one (or more) Furby in the name of science (OK, at least in the name of education).  Make sure your Furby is not overly dirty of damaged (i.e., a car has not run over it).

Thanks for your interest!

Unfortunately, only four Furbys were donated after the Charlotte Observer article.  Therefore,

The Furby drop-off location is no longer available

I still need Furbys, though.  Please call 704-687-8597, or mail to:
