Midterm Review

I'm going to pass back the midterm and discuss it with you.  Please return these to me.  I'm supposed to keep exams on file, so don't take them with you.  I change them every semester, so they'll do your buddies no good in another semester.  If I don't get yours back...I can't give you a grade.

Let's go over the midterm in detail.

• Using simple, direct verbs for résumé duties

• Revising for passive voice, parallelism, and other wordiness

• General guidelines for block and modified block letter formats

• Using jargon, limiting doublespeak, reducing excess verbiage

• Revising sexist and offensive language

• Using good instruction language and technique for users

• Understanding the goals of technical communicators and technical communication in general

• Understanding technology from a social perspective

I, Robot Essay Topics

This novel is a very quick read. I'm actually a slow reader--I deliberately slow down and contemplate the message of most texts--and I can finish this novel in a little over three hours. Let's get a preview of our I, Robot discussion, and I also have some extra stuff for you to look at before you start reading on the I, Robot Topics Page.

Spring Break March 7th-12th

I know you all will miss being in class next week, but hang in there--we'll return on 3/14.

Finish I, Robot and be have your essays for me by 3/16--when we'll discuss the book. Be warned, though, the movie isn't anything like the book. And I don't just mean that the book is great and the movie's trash. The movie is a totally different story.
