My name is Jacob Pridmore. I am from Concord, NC. I currently attend UNC Charlotte as a Freshman in Mechanical Engineering.
I am inspired by the ambition to improve our current environment. As a Mechanical Engineer, I will constantly be driven to create and improve inventions that will be better than the status quo. I wish to make an impact by Engineering better robots and autonomous systems.
Five things from my bucket list are to
The three inventions created in the past 150 years that have made the greatest impact on our quality of life and prosperity are the invention of the assembly line, electrical power systems and the internet.
The creation of the assembly line allowed goods to be produced in a much cheaper and more efficient manner. This allowed customers to purchase higher quality goods at a price that they could afford. Products outsold their hand-made predecessors.
The creation of the electrical power system powers items we use every day. Items we take for granted, such as automobiles and lights are powered by electricity. If electricity were not to have been harnessed and utilized for power, there would not be high-tech electronic devices such as laptops, smartphones and smart wearables (such as smartwatches).
The creation of the internet has allowed us to exchange work and information at an unprecedented pace. For example, in past generations, when we would want to contact someone else, someone would have to write a letter and hope it reached the end receiver reliably. This does not even take into consideration the days or weeks that it would take for the person to receive the letter. Later on, calling someone was an option, but would not work if the other party was not available at the moment to receive the call. Today, someone can send a text, email or direct message through social media and deliver it to a person almost instantaneously, without the need for them to be available at the given moment.
