About Wine To Water

Wine To Water is a nonprofit organization based out of Boone, North Carolina, dedicated to ending the water crisis.

Doc Hendley was a bartender working in Raleigh when he first discovered the water crisis. He began organizing fundraising events in local bars before traveling to Sudan, Africa, to help provide clean water to victims of the genocide. After a year, he returned home, but the memories from his time there continued to haunt him. Doc continued to build on his dream of providing clean water to the world, and, in 2007, Wine To Water was born. Two years later, Doc was named a top ten CNN Hero for his work.

Today, Wine To Water has served 742,794 people in 35 countries around the world.

Three of these locations have fully-staffed offices that employ locals in the community who best know the region's needs and can implement effective and sustainable solutions to address them. Wine To Water is as dedicated to learning as it is to helping and collaborates with the local community to achieve realistic strategies instead of imposing them. Each approach is tailor-made to fit the resources available in the area and the skills of the people living there. More information about Wine To Water's programs can be found here.
