Biometric Security & 3D Face Reconstruction Research — KED/KDD Lab, UNC Charlotte

Current Research Projects

  • Towards 3D Contactless Fingerprint and Face Matching (Ongoing)
This project aims to collect high-quality 2D/3D face and fingerprint data, process it with automated feature extraction and manual quality checks, and develop modern deep-learning models supported by an open, unified multimodal dataset.
  • 3D Face Mask Generation & Deepfake Identity Preservation (Ongoing)
Building and evaluating 2D→3D reconstruction pipelines; fabricating physical masks; assessing identity preservation for biometric spoofing/anti-spoofing.
  • Early Autism Detection in Infants via AI Video Analysis (Ongoing)
Exploring motion/behavioral pattern analysis in infant videos using AI to assist early screening.

Past Research Projects

  • NIR-Based Infant Iris Scanner (Published)
Designed a portable NIR infant iris acquisition system on Jetson Nano; evaluated usability and imaging performance. (IEEE EMBC 2024)
  • Synthetic Contactless Palmprint Biometrics with StyleGAN (Published)
Generated realistic palmprint samples for training/augmentation and analyzed biometric viability. (Journal of Cybersecurity and Privacy, 2024)
  • Voice Pre-Processing & Quality Assessment Dataset (VPQAD) (Published)
Curated and released a real-world, noisy voice dataset to evaluate enhancement and ASR pipelines. (IEEE DataPort)
  • Audio Denoising for Speaker Recognition (Wave-U-Net, CMGAN, U-Net) (Under review)
Built denoising pipelines and tested downstream speaker recognition robustness (e.g., with VeriSpeak).
  • Noise-Resilient Voice Data via Kalman Filtering (Preprint/Manuscript Ready)
Open-source pipeline for speech denoising using Kalman filters; prepared for publication.
  • Electrochemical Measurement with BLE Microcontroller (Published)
Implemented chronoamperometry and cyclic voltammetry with LMP91000 and Arduino/BLE stack (UEMCON 2025).
  • Biometric Aging in Children (Data Collection)
Collected longitudinal multimodal biometrics (fingerprint, palmprint, iris, footprint, face, audio) from young participants.
