Dear Teacher/Participant,

Thank you very much for attending the contest. We hope you plan to be here again next year.

The UNC Charlotte Mathematics Department is pleased to announce the results of the Algebra II and Comprehensive Mathematics Contests of Super Competition Day 2007. We had 132 comprehensive mathematics student participants from 15 schools and 56 algebra participants from 10 schools.  The students heard a great talk by Rich Neidinger, Mathematics Dept. Chair, Davidson College entitled Counting on Infinity.

The Comprehensive contest had 24 multiple choice questions and the algebra test consisted of 30 multiple choice questions. The top two comprehensive students were Drew Boyuka and Brendan Fletcher who tied for first. Both are home schooled. Brendan is an eighth grader and Drew is a senior. Third was Bryce Taylor, an eighth grader at Hanes Middle in Winston Salem. Jenny Chen was first in Algebra. Jenny, an eighth grader, is from Arendell Parrott  Academy. Second was David Lucia, also an eighth grader, of Providence Day School. Providence Day won the top school award and will keep the Bonnie Cone trophy for the next year. For more results, see http://www.math.uncc.edu/~hbreiter/problems/UNCC.html. Click here for comprehensive results and here for algebra results.

Book awards were presented to the students who qualified for the state mathematics contest runoffs (10 in each contest qualified). Trophies went to the top five students in each category. Team trophies went to school winners in two categories: inside Mecklenburg County and outside Mecklenburg County.

Comprehensive:      In Mecklenburg County = Charlotte Latin School; Out of County = Sun Valley High School.

Algebra II:               In Mecklenburg County = Providence Day School; Out of County = East Lincoln High School.

The top overall school was Providence Day School.

Cheers,
