Where
CAMMP is camp… and learning is part of the fun !!
CAMMP’s
philosophy is to enhance a child’s genuine understanding of mathematics and its
connections to thinking, reasoning and real world problem solving. Individual
attention is given to each
CAMMPer by specially trained master
level teachers.
CAMMP is directed by Dr. Michael Green &
Dr. Jack Piel, UNC Charlotte faculty in Elementary Education.
CAMMP
is an
International Award winning experience,
recognized for its creativity and innovation.
CAMMP
has been written about in professional journals as well as
The Charlotte Observer.
Hands-on manipulatives, from addition to algebra, prepares your child for math
at his or her next grade level. At
CAMMP,
children from rising 1st
to 7th
grade discover the
fun in mathematics .
CAMMP
Connections
Basic Computers:
CAMMPers learn the
basic operations and keyboarding necessary to use the Internet, word processing,
graphics, and email. They compile entry level portfolios using a personal
authoring system called Hyperstudio. Individualized attention is given to these
beginning computer operators so little frustration results. (Grades 1 – 3)
Advanced Computers:
CAMMPers apply
knowledge of computers to develop a Hyperstudio presentation which incorporates
graphics, text processing, and data, including information from the internet and
electronic imaging. Students learn and practice their skills by publishing the
weekly newsletter,
CAMMP
Capers.
(Grades 4-7)
Basic Robotics:
CAMMPers learn the
basics of simple, repetitive motion machines. Each
CAMMPer
will build and operate both manually and battery powered machines for land and
water. (Grades 1 – 4)
Advanced Robotics:
CAMMPers build complex
machines that operate use batteries, electricity, and solar power. More advanced
students design computer programs to control the timing, sequencing, and motions
of these complex machines. (Grades 4 – 7)
