Problem Statement:
-Now
that
the cannon plug or circular harness connector has been
designed, tolerances
need to be decided on. My
requirements
for the plug is a medium tolerance slip fit for accurate
horizontal movement in
the assembly. The
small pins in the
assembly will need to be accurately located so decreasing a
significant amount
of play is needed. On
the collar where
rotation is needed, a much looser tolerance can be used.

Decision Matrix:
-Clearance
needs
to be tight on these parts so that they align the electrical
pins
correctly without any issues.
At the
same time, the plug needs to easily install on the
receptacle with minimal
effort. I have
chosen 3 different RC fits
that will work for my application. RC1
close sliding fits, a very tight-fitting tolerance that
allows for close to no
play. RC2
sliding fits are tight
tolerance but allow for turning and sliding of the objects. RC4 close running
fits allow accurate fits
where location is a concern but plenty of room for rotation
and sliding.
